Global Housing Strategies (GHS_LLC) is a firm created to serve (i) bankers and the banking industry, (ii) investors in mortgage lending firms and in mortgage-related debt instruments, (iii) regulators whose mission it is to devise policies and procedures to effectively regulate lenders, the lending process, and debt instruments collateralized in some fashion by mortgage loans. In addition, the Firm (iv) serves as a center of excellence and expertise for larger consulting firms in their engagements with large corporate clients.
Global Housing Strategies was started by Michael Bookstaber, CFA. Until his recent retirement from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Mr. Bookstaber was the Global Head of IFC’s Housing Finance Group. He was the original pioneering member of the Housing Finance Group, starting in 1998, and has extensive experience in booking transactions in many emerging markets.
Mr. Bookstaber brings over thirty-eight years of experience in the mortgage and banking business worldwide. This experience encompasses all areas of mortgage lending and mortgage portfolio management and regulation, ranging from back office functions and organization to front-office functions such as strategic planning, funding, portfolio and pipeline management and risk management.
In addition to the most recent tenure at IFC, Mr. Bookstaber's resume includes:
- Work for banking regulatory agencies in the United States and abroad, involving bank examinations and workouts of supervisory cases.
- Capital markets experience as a pioneering member of Alex. Brown & Sons’ Taxable Fixed Income and Real Estate Securities Groups, doing MBS and ABS deals and commercial mortgage debt offerings.
- Experience at Fannie Mae from 1990 to 1998, primarily in the single family guarantee business managing its financials and doing its business forecasting for investors.
